Discover How Yoga Practice Can Enhance Your Life
In life, we deal with a lot of changes. Too often, we tend to feel overwhelmed with the stress and uncertainty that comes with it.
When was the last time you were walking on a tightrope as if your life depended on it?
One of the best ways to deal with transitions or challenges in your life is to amplify your yoga practice.
Does this sound odd to you? Read on and find out how your yoga practice can help you transform your life on and off the mat.
1. Build A Strong Foundation
In yoga practice, we are taught to create an anchor through our feet and focus on syncing the movement and breath. How do yoga poses translate to your daily life?
When executing a specific yoga pose, you ground yourself through your feet. This is achieved by flexing the heels, lifting the knees and strengthening the thighs in order to achieve balance. However, achieving this stability is not always comfortable. Keep in mind that as you journey through life, it is not about finding the solution to permanently avoid life’s challenges but it is essentially avoid rising above the challenge without breaking.
2. Sink Into Your Foundation
As you perform your regular yoga practice, you will find it easier to maintain balance. Once you feel steady, you are encouraged to hold a particular position and breathe. As you do this, think about inhaling and exhaling full, rounded breaths. To start, try inhaling 4 times and slowly exhaling 4 times. Allow awareness to grow as you breathe in and out. Feel the energy and sense of empowerment curse through your body. Try to push yourself a little further to try out more complicated poses.
In life, we are often required to step out of our comfort zone. It is sometimes the only way to achieve greater things. Be fearless.
3. Engage Your Core
As you go through different poses, draw strength from your core. Tighten it from the very bottom, just below your navel. Lift up your abdominals, roll in your pelvis and lengthen your body. Train yourself to perform all these all at once and exhale your breathe without losing connection.
Over time, your body will be trained to do this naturally. This can help eliminate back pain as well as help you build up a stronger core and a stable foundation for life. Be more confident in yourself and trust in your instincts.
4. Practice Patience
One of the psychological benefits of yoga practice is you are encouraged to practice patience. Adjust your relationship with time. Focus and be in the moment instead of constantly rushing out to get somewhere or do something else. Enjoy the present.
5. Become an Observer
The modern world has trained us to constantly react to any form of stimulus. This is one of the reasons why we tend to lash out and get angry, even without finding out the details and really taking the time to understand the situation.
Yoga practice helps you become observant of all the details and sensations in and around you. What are the thoughts that go through your mind? Do you notice them? What are the emotions you feel? Yoga practice encourages you to develop awareness without any judgment. Simply acknowledge the facts and let go.
Yoga practice involves moving meditation. Try to find your balance and rhythm and just flow with it. Learn to let go of things you cannot change and gain confidence in your ability to tackle every hurdle and curve balls life throws your way. In time you will learn to differentiate ego from self-esteem.
